"Romney's going to let Wall Street write their own rules. Unchain Wall Street. And we go back in chains." Those were Vice President Joe Biden's words yesterday.
Biden was referencing Paul Ryan's words "Unshackle our economy to create millions of new job opportunities." Ryan was speaking about a new commitment to limited government.
This exchange has caused a lot of controversy in the media and among the voters. However, the use of the word 'chains' was not a reference to slavery as some politicians would have everyone believe. It is a reference to putting our investments, including pensions and IRA which are investments, at the mercy of our financial institutions. In many cases, those financial institutions contributed to the collapse of Wall Street and the current financial problems.
I don't agree with unshackling our economy via the clandestine act of repealing regulations without an evaluation of each regulation. The events of the past five years have proven to me that Wall Street needs some close supervision provided via government regulations.
